The Simpsons : In A Class Of It's Own

Image
Carrying on from an earlier  post  where I introduced you to The Simpsons, (yes I know they probably don't need an introduction) I thought I would expand the post to other characters on the programme however, with so many different characters just where do you start?  I've decided to continue with the characters associated with Springfield Elementary, friends, teachers and indeed the odd enemy. Springfield Elementary under the not to excellent hands of Principle Skinner is an often under achieving, chaotic and down right bizarre school, I'm not sure if anyone would want to send their children there!  The Best Friend Milhouse Van Houten Milhouse Van Houten is 10 years old and Bart's best friend, they are in the same class at Springfield Elementary and although Milhouse and Bart are often complete opposites they share a close bond. Milhouse appears to be quite sensible, sensitive and intelligent but is also quite gullible, it is this trait that often leads to hi...

The Simpsons

Image
What can I write about The Simpsons that hasn't been written before? Probably not a lot as there are dozens of sites detailing every aspect of the series already but as it is my favourite programme I thought why not? The Simpsons has been on television since 1989, that's over 30 yrs! An amazing accomplishment in our never ending search for something new and fresh and while it probably isn't as funny as it once was, what could be after such a long time? Generations like my own have grown up and grown older than the characters portrayed, establishing a fondness for the series. So let me introduce you to, if they need any introduction at all, to perhaps the most famous television stars in the world, an average yellow, American family consisting of three children, Bart, Lisa and Maggie along with their parents, mother Marge and the idiotic, chaos creating, overweight, drunk father Homer. The Cute Simpson Maggie Simpson The youngest and cutest of the Simpson's is Maggie, at ...

Dumbo

Dumbo, the story of a cute, flying, baby elephant... it could only be Disney Dumbo, the Disney film about a baby flying elephant has brought joy and laughter to millions of children and adults since it was first released in 1941, a good old fashioned underdog story about a sympathetic character who is first picked upon, ridiculed and shunned, is then separated from his mother whose only fault was to protect her child and is then forced to make a public spectacle of himself for the pleasure and greed of others, is it any wonder this cute little guy has won our hearts? We were routing for him right from the start. Dumbo was one of Disney's earliest successful movies, and only their fourth film release,...

Bob's Burgers

Who says you have to be a child to enjoy animation? Ever since my teens I have enjoyed watching The Simpsons, an animated series about an average, yellow American family who have been entertaining the masses for over 30 years and whether you enjoy the show, think the quality has dipped over the years or simply don't like it, there is no denying that the show is an iconic figure of entertainment. Since The Simpsons became a household name back in the early 1990s other animated shows, focusing on the adult viewer have come and gone, each hoping to repeat the success of the original, King Of The Hill, Family Guy, American Dad and Bob's Burgers are probably the best known of these and while I have enjoyed each show my favourite is Bob's Burgers. Debuting in January 2011 Bob's Burgers has created something of a cult following, while not resulting in huge viewin...

The Ghost Train

Image
The film Ghost Train isn't about a scary funfair ride nor is it really a horror film despite being labelled as one, what it is, is a 1941 comedy starring Arthur Askey an English actor who first made his name on radio and in Music Hall performances and whether you enjoy the film or not will largely depend on whether you enjoy his brand of slapstick comedy. Arthur Askey Doesn't Look Too Spooked By The Ghost Train Slapstick comedy is something I personally enjoy, but what is it? It's a particular form of humour that involves over the top physical reactions, exaggerated mannerisms, think Laurel and Hardy and Charlie Chaplin, two of the more well known names of the genre, over here in good old England we had actors such as George Formby, Norman Wisdom, Will Hay and yes Arthur Askey. All these names except for Norman Wisdom found fame before the 1950's and the style today is a little harder to pinpoint but if you are watching a comedy and the actor or indeed actress is ma...
