The Simpsons

What can I write about The Simpsons that hasn't been written before? Probably not a lot as there are dozens of sites detailing every aspect of the series already but as it is my favourite programme I thought why not?

The Simpsons has been on television since 1989, that's over 30 yrs! An amazing accomplishment in our never ending search for something new and fresh and while it probably isn't as funny as it once was, what could be after such a long time? Generations like my own have grown up and grown older than the characters portrayed, establishing a fondness for the series.

So let me introduce you to, if they need any introduction at all, to perhaps the most famous television stars in the world, an average yellow, American family consisting of three children, Bart, Lisa and Maggie along with their parents, mother Marge and the idiotic, chaos creating, overweight, drunk father Homer.

The Cute Simpson

Maggie Simpson

The youngest and cutest of the Simpson's is Maggie, at just 1 year old she is forever sucking on her dummy and as she hasn't learnt to talk yet Maggie is the silent Simpson. Maggie is also just learning to walk and so is often seen falling down, not that she gets the chance to practice her first steps very often as she is usually seen in the arms of her attentive mother Marge. Maggie and Marge share a strong bond and are often seen enjoying each other's company, her bond with her father however is a little more strained, being the selfish man that he is, Homer would much rather be out drinking than spending time with his youngest child. Maggie wears a matching blue baby grow and hair bow. her hairstyle is the same as her older sister Lisa, styled into spikes or points creating a starfish shape. Maggie can be mischievous and often gets away with things that her older brother and sister wouldn't she apparently is also quite handy with a gun and other objects she is far to young to understand. Forever a baby, Maggie in 2020 would be about 30 years old.

The Smart Simpson

Lisa Simpson

The middle child and the intelligent Simpson is Lisa. At 8 years old Lisa is a nerd, she is the cleverest pupil at her school, Springfield Elementary and because of her strong beliefs often finds it hard mixing with other people especially the more popular girls and boys at her school. She is very moral and is often at odds with her own family over the issues she stands for, she is also a vegetarian and a Buddhist. Lisa likes playing her saxophone and has a keen interest for jazz music she also has a fondness for pony's. Lisa's hair is yellow and styled into spikes/points creating a starfish shape, she wears a red, strapless dress and a pearl necklace. Forever a little girl in 2020 Lisa would be around 39 years old.

The Mischievous Simpson 

Bart Simpson

The eldest and the most mischievous of the Simpson children is Bart. At 10 years old Bart is something of a trouble maker and a popular child at school thanks to his many pranks and class clown behaviour causing mayhem for all those around him. Although a rebel, Bart also has a softer side, and often helps his younger sister Lisa to solve problems. He likes watching tv, his favourite programme is The Krusty The Clown Show, whose titular character is featured heavily in his bedroom on posters, toys and even on his alarm clock, he also likes reading comics and riding his skateboard, he is often seen with his best friend Milhouse whom usually gets dragged into Bart's crazy schemes. Bart wears blue shorts and a red t shirt and like all of the Simpson children has spiky hair. Over the years Bart has come up with many catchphrases, the most famous being 'ay caramba', others include 'eat my shorts' and 'don't have a cow, man'. Forever a young boy, Bart would now be over 40 years old and had hopefully would have grown out of his childish behaviour!

The Sensible Simpson

                                     

Marge Simpson

The matriarch of the Simpson family is Marge. Striving to be a perfect housewife and mother to her idiotic husband Homer and her mayhem inducing children Bart, Lisa and Maggie is a full time job. Marge is often the voice of reason in her chaotic household and is very moralistic. Marge has a distinctive hairstyle, a tall, blue beehive, she wears a green dress with a red necklace and is often seen either holding or looking after her youngest child, Maggie. Marge devotes all her time to her family and as a result has few friends, she ensures the family attend church every Sunday and when she does have free time helps out at church events, something Homer and the rest of the family usually aren't to keen on. Marge is known throughout their hometown of Springfield as loving, caring and decent woman and most wonder why she is married to and stands by all her husband's antics.

The Idiotic Simpson

Homer Simpson

The patriarch of the Simpson family is Homer, there are plenty of words you could use to describe the man, not many of them favourable, he is idiotic, selfish, lazy and childish, he is also over weight, he drinks to much and is balding. He is certainly not a good role model to his three children Bart, Lisa and Maggie and is not a very good husband to his wife Marge, however it is probably because of these characteristics that originally made him popular and funny, like a household villain, someone you wouldn't want to be around or related too but have to watch. Despite all of his failings he obviously loves his family, he just finds it hard and a lot of effort to show his affection, anything for this man is too much trouble, his favourite thing to do is sit on the couch watching television, although he finds it hard to be emotional towards his family he often cries at more simpler things, for example if he doesn't get what he wants for dinner or if he misses a television programme. Homer Simpson has a simple catchphrase 'doh' when anything goes wrong and this being Homer Simpson it often does. He wears a white shirt with blue jeans, he works at a nuclear powerplant as a safety inspector, which in itself is a joke, could you imagine a worst person for the job?

The Old Simpson

Grandpa Simpson

Abraham Simpson or as he is more commonly known Grandpa Simpson, Grandpa or Abe is Homer's father, he is very old and now lives at Springfield Retirement Castle. In his youth he served in World War II and then ran a farm, his marriage to wife Mona ended when she had to go on the run for destroying Mr Burns' biolab, Abe told Homer that she had died while he was at the movies. The farm closed in 1963 due to the cows producing sour milk, thanks to Homer spooking them by running around shouting at them and so they moved into an apartment building. As a single parent Grandpa sank into alcoholism and showed Homer little attention or affection, it is his bad parenting that may have led to Homer himself being a bad parent. Now in his old age Grandpa likes to ramble on with stories about his youth most of which make no sense at all and it is considered that he is senile which might also explain his very grumpy and moody view of the world. He has a tuft of hair and wears glasses, a bolo tie and a pink shirt, very trendy!

The Younger Twin

Patty Bouvier

Patty Bouvier is one half of the Bouvier Twins and is two minutes younger than her twin sister Selma and several years older than their younger sister Marge. The pair share a close bond and are usually seen together, often smoking a cigarette, they also share a similar appearance and both dislike Homer, they are not shy of putting him down and pointing out his mistakes, the feeling is mutual, they also share an apartment. Patty for many years hid her sexuality before coming out as a lesbian, she once dated Principle Skinner but ended the relationship as the bond with her sister was to strong. She works with Selma at the Department For Motor Vehicles, DMV and takes great pride in denying customers their licence. Patty has grey hair styled in an afro shape, she wears a pink dress and shoes, blue or orange, triangular earrings and a blue or orange beaded necklace.

The Elder Twin

Selma Bouvier

Selma Bouvier is the other half of the Bouvier Twins and is two minutes old than her twin sister Patty and several years older than their younger sister Marge. The pair share a close bond and are usually seen together, often smoking a cigarette, they also share a similar appearance and both dislike Homer, they are not shy of putting him down and pointing out his mistakes, the feeling is mutual, they also share an apartment. Patty at one stage wanted children but gave up on the idea after having to take care of Bart and Lisa for the day at Duff Gardens. Patty has had several marriages, she once married Sideshow Bob but this ended when he tried to kill her. She works with Patty at the Department For Motor Vehicles, DMV and takes great pride in denying customers their licence. Selma's hair is parted down the middle forming an m shape, she wears a blue dress and shoes, purple or orange circular earrings and a purple or orange beaded necklace.
